Valve has finally pulled back the curtain on the cost of its upcoming Steam Machine, a console-style gaming PC designed to run Linux-based SteamOS in your living room. After months of speculation regarding supply chain hurdles and component shortages, the company confirmed specific pricing tiers and a launch timeline that begins shipping just one week from now.

Four SKUs and bundle options

The Steam Machine will be available in two storage configurations: 512GB and 2TB. Each configuration can be purchased standalone or as part of a bundle that includes the new $99 Steam Controller gamepad. This creates four distinct purchasing options with prices listed across multiple regions.

  • Steam Machine 512GB: $1,049 USD / 1,509 CAD / 1,039 EUR / 879 GBP / 1,609 AUD / 4,389 PLN
  • Steam Machine 512GB + Steam Controller: $1,128 USD / 1,628 CAD / 1,108 EUR / 938 GBP / 1,728 AUD / 4,698 PLN
  • Steam Machine 2TB: $1,349 USD / 1,919 CAD / 1,359 EUR / 1,149 GBP / 2,109 AUD / 5,739 PLN
  • Steam Machine 2TB + Steam Controller: $1,428 USD / 2,038 CAD / 1,428 EUR / 1,208 GBP / 2,228 AUD / 6,048 PLN

For those opting for the larger 2TB model, Valve offers customization beyond the standard black faceplate. You can choose between a red fabric front cover or a solid walnut option to match your home theater setup.

Reservation system and launch date

Due to ongoing global shortages in memory and storage components, Valve cannot guarantee immediate availability for all interested buyers. Instead, the company is implementing a randomized reservation queue similar to its approach with the Steam Controller.

You can sign up for the reservation list on the official Steam Machine store page starting now until Thursday, June 25th at 10 a.m. PT. Once the window closes, Valve will randomize the entries to determine the order of fulfillment.

After the randomization process, you will receive an email confirming whether you are in the primary reservation queue or placed on a waitlist. Those in the queue will be notified when units are ready for purchase. Valve states that the first orders will begin shipping on Monday, June 29.

Eligibility requirements

To participate in the reservation process, your Steam account must be in good standing. Additionally, you must have made a purchase on Steam prior to April 27. While you cannot change your reserved model after signing up, you are permitted to reserve multiple different versions or bundles if you wish to increase your chances of securing a unit.

What this means for you: If you have been waiting for a plug-and-play Linux gaming box from Valve, the wait is nearly over. However, due to limited initial stock, acting quickly during the reservation window is crucial. The pricing positions the Steam Machine as a premium alternative to building a custom PC or buying a high-end console, particularly if you value the integrated SteamOS experience.
