Mammotion has built a solid reputation in the robotic lawn care space with its LUBA and YUKA series. Now, the company is applying that same engineering philosophy to aquatic maintenance with the Spino E1. This is Mammotion’s first foray into robotic pool cleaning, and it brings several familiar elements from its land-based robots, including caterpillar tracks, a 17-sensor array, and support for the Mammotion app.
For pool owners looking to automate maintenance without breaking the bank, the Spino E1 promises a straightforward solution. But does the cross-pollination of lawn mower technology translate to effective underwater cleaning? We spent time with the robot to find out.

Design and Build Quality
The Spino E1 arrives in secure packaging, containing a power adapter with a charging cable, a retrieval hook for a pool pole, and a quick-start guide. Notably, there is no charging station included in the box, which is a minor inconvenience compared to cradle-based systems.
Power is delivered via a charging port protected by a rubber cap on the housing. A prominent yellow warning label advises users to charge only when the port is dry and to ensure no standing water is inside. While cable charging is less convenient than a dock, the connection proved reliable during our testing.
Measuring 44.4 × 41.2 × 24.3 centimeters, the robot is remarkably compact. It weighs 20.5 pounds (9.3 kg), making it easy to lift out of the pool using the integrated handle. For context, the Mova Rover X10 weighs 34.8 pounds, while the Aiper Scuba V3 is slightly lighter at 18.1 pounds.

The housing features a white casing with black elements and yellow accents. The most distinctive feature is the light blue lamellar roller at the front. This wide brush scrubs the pool floor before the suction opening picks up the loosened debris. The propulsion is provided by two coarsely grooved caterpillar tracks with 40-millimeter-wide treads, which maintain grip even on smooth plastic liners and steep walls.
Maintenance is user-friendly. The roller and tracks can be removed without tools, simplifying the replacement of worn parts. The top of the unit houses the power button with an LED strip and the yellow lid of the filter basket, which lifts out easily. The build quality appears solid, with no rattling parts or noticeable gaps, and the flaps close securely.
The housing is IPX8-rated, protecting it against prolonged submersion. The battery is double-sealed, and the materials are UV-resistant. The robot is suitable for salt water with a concentration of up to 5,000 ppm. Mammotion backs the device with a two-year warranty and offers OTA update functionality.
Features and Filtration
Inside, three brushless motors power the drive system and brush, along with a separate suction motor. This setup provides a maximum circulation rate of approximately 22,000 liters per hour (5,800 GPH). Dirt is collected in a filter basket with a mesh size of 180 micrometers. This is effective for trapping sand, leaves, and insects, but it is worth noting that Mammotion does not include an additional fine filter for pollen and suspended particles.
For comparison, competitors like the Mova Rover X10 and Aiper Scuba V3 filter significantly finer particles with their 3-micron membranes. If water clarity and fine filtration are your top priorities, this is a key differentiator.
Navigation relies on 17 sensors and SmartArc path planning. Unlike some rivals that require a laser tower or AI camera, the Spino E1 follows arc-shaped paths, detects walls and obstacles, and adjusts its direction after each cycle. It does not create a map of the pool, which simplifies the setup process but limits advanced scheduling options.

According to Mammotion, the robot is suitable for pools with a surface area of up to 150 square meters. The maximum operating depth is three meters, and it can handle walls and transitions at angles of up to 110 degrees. It is compatible with liner, tiles, concrete, fiberglass, and natural stone surfaces.
The Spino E1 offers four cleaning modes plus a turbo mode (currently a beta option):
- Floor Mode: Runs for up to 210 minutes.
- Wall Mode: Runs for up to 180 minutes.
- Auto Mode: Cleans walls first, then switches to the floor when the battery is half full.
- Eco Mode: Divides the battery charge into three 50-minute floor cleaning sessions, allowing the robot to remain in the water for several days.
Power is supplied by a 6,000 mAh battery, which takes approximately three hours to fully recharge.
Setup and App Experience
Setup is managed via the Mammotion app, which is also used for its LUBA and YUKA robotic lawnmowers. If you already own a Mammotion device, you can simply add the Spino E1 to your list. New users can create an account, activate Bluetooth, and pair the robot in under two minutes.
Immediately after pairing, the app offered several firmware updates, which completed quickly. While it is unclear how frequently Mammotion will release updates for the Spino E1, the initial OTA capability is a positive sign for long-term support.

A notable advantage of the Spino E1 is that you do not need to configure the pool geometry. Competitors like the Aiper Scuba V3 require users to input pool shape, dimensions, and water type before the first start. The Mammotion app simply prompts you to place the robot in the water and press start.
Once placed, the robot fills its chambers with water, sinks to the bottom, and begins its cleaning cycle. The LED strip on top indicates the current mode and charge level. The entire process is intuitive enough to complete without consulting the manual.
Performance in the Pool
We tested the Spino E1 in a round pool with a smooth liner and a suspended stainless-steel ladder. Round pools present a challenge for navigation due to the lack of straight guide edges. However, the Spino E1 navigated reliably throughout our testing.
After sinking to the bottom, the robot follows arc-shaped paths across the floor, turns at the wall, and shifts slightly to the next track. After a complete cycle, no visible patches of dirt remained. Sand, leaves, and insects were reliably collected in the filter basket. The robot also picked up small pebbles from the bottom, demonstrating strong suction power.
The caterpillar tracks hold the robot securely against the wall, and the roller applies audible pressure. At the waterline, the device extends several centimeters above the surface, ensuring that the typical ring of sunscreen and skin oils is thoroughly removed. This waterline cleaning is a significant benefit for pool hygiene.
The robot is clearly audible on the surface but is barely noticeable underwater. It handled the pool ladder well, occasionally brushing against the rungs, reversing briefly, and continuing its path. It did not get stuck on the steps, a problem we encountered with the Aiper Scuba V3.
When the battery runs low, the robot climbs to the waterline and parks at the edge of the pool. When lifted out, the remaining water drains away in about five seconds, making it easier to carry. The filter basket can be removed from the top and rinsed with a garden hose. The coarse sieve did not clog significantly during testing, though fine particles may require more effort to clean. Due to the 180-micron mesh size, some of the finest pollen passes through.
The app’s functionality is limited. It only connects via Bluetooth when the robot is out of the water or at the water’s edge. Once submerged, there is no connection, meaning live data and manual control during the cleaning cycle are not possible. The Mova Rover X10 maintains contact via its AquaSonar buoy even while cleaning, but that model is significantly more expensive.
Detailed cleaning logs showing area covered and filter volume are also missing. However, Eco mode is suitable for regular floor maintenance, allowing the robot to clean at intervals over several days before needing a recharge.
What This Means for You
The Mammotion Spino E1 is a capable and easy-to-use pool robot that delivers thorough cleaning of floors, walls, and the waterline. Its tracks and sensor system work reliably, and the low weight makes it easy to lift out. If you prioritize ease of use and want a robot that requires minimal setup, the Spino E1 is a strong contender.
However, if you need real-time data, activity logs, or superior fine filtration, you may want to look at the Mova Rover X10 or Aiper Scuba V3. Both offer more advanced features but come at a higher price point. The Spino E1 is best suited for buyers who want effective cleaning without the complexity of smart mapping or the cost of premium filtration.
