CD Projekt Red has officially announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed 40 million copies sold worldwide. The developer shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), celebrating the milestone as a testament to the community’s long-term support.
A redemption arc complete
The game’s journey to this number has been anything but linear. After a notoriously troubled launch in 2020, CD Projekt Red committed to years of post-launch patches to address bugs and performance issues. These efforts, combined with the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion, significantly improved the core experience.
The studio also credited the popularity of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series for bringing new players into Night City. A teaser trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners 2 was recently revealed, keeping momentum high among fans who followed the franchise through its ups and downs.

What this means for you
If you have been waiting to dive into Night City, now is a strong time to consider it. The game is in much better shape than at launch, with balanced mechanics and a robust content library including the Ultimate Edition bundle. For existing players, the 40 million mark signals that the community remains active, ensuring multiplayer features and mod support stay relevant.
Looking ahead
CD Projekt Red is not stopping here. The studio is currently in pre-production for a direct sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Simultaneously, development continues on The Witcher 4. Both titles are expected to release in the distant future, but the success of Cyberpunk 2077 provides the financial stability needed to pursue these ambitious projects.
