Microsoft just made a bold claim about Windows on Arm, and this time it is backed by numbers. Ahead of the RTX Spark platform launch this fall, the company says the platform has reached a milestone that Windows RT could never achieve: more than 7,000 verified apps and games now run on it.
The Works on Windows on Arm site now catalogs over 7,000 verified apps and games, built directly from Microsoft’s compatibility data. That is a long way from the rough start the platform had with Windows RT back in 2013, and it follows years of rebuilding trust since the Snapdragon X Series chips arrived.
According to Microsoft’s Windows Developer blog, the market is responding. “The market is sending a clear signal: more silicon providers and more OEM partners are investing in Windows on Arm because customer demand is growing for these powerful and efficient Windows devices and experiences,” the company wrote.

More apps, more games
The single biggest number Microsoft threw out is the 7,000 figure. If you remember the launch of the first Snapdragon X Copilot+ PCs about two and a half years ago, most of the conversation centered on app support — and most of that conversation was worry about whether your favorite software would even run.
Today, the picture looks very different. Beyond the 7,000 verified apps, Microsoft confirmed that more than 85% of the Xbox Game Pass catalog is now compatible with Arm-based Windows 11 PCs. That milestone came after the Xbox app arrived on the platform, which opened the door to a much larger gaming library than early Arm devices could offer.
The emphasis on compatibility is deliberate. How Prism emulation closed the gap

Prism has been steadily upgraded since launch, including a 2025 update that added AVX and AVX2 instruction support. These are extensions that many game engines and older applications rely on and previously had no path to running on Arm. Their addition removed one of the last major barriers to running demanding software.
Microsoft has also confirmed that Prism has been specifically tuned for RTX Spark’s architecture, so emulated apps on the new chip should run better than they do on existing Snapdragon hardware. In practice, that means the worst emulation complaints of the early days should fade as newer silicon ships.

A growing list of Arm-native apps
Microsoft also shared a list of common apps that are now Arm native, and the categories are broad. The productivity and creativity lineup includes Adobe’s Affinity suite, Inkscape, Perplexity’s Comet browser, Signal, Proton Mail, and Proton Drive.
The security list covers established enterprise names like Acronis Cyber Protect, Sophos, Trellix, and Microsoft’s own Configuration Manager and Purview clients. Notably, some major consumer apps have also released Arm-native versions recently, including Discord, Bluebeam Revu, and Telegram.
The education and STEM category includes classroom software like Safe Exam Browser, MATLAB, and Turnitin — a signal that schools are a bigger part of Microsoft’s Arm push than many users realize. On the gaming side, NVIDIA announced at Gamescom that many new titles are coming to Windows Arm in one form or another, including porting some anti-cheat software so those titles work properly.

Users remain skeptical
App compatibility on Windows on Arm has been solid for a while, but the bigger issue is customer perception. Anyone who bought a Snapdragon X PC at launch in 2024 and had a rough time is unlikely to check back in on every driver and Prism update since, so Microsoft repeating this message ahead of RTX Spark’s launch may look like it is trying to get ahead of the same skepticism before a new, more expensive class of hardware arrives.

Reaching 7,000+ verified apps under those constraints is genuinely commendable, even if it will never match Apple’s tightly controlled playbook.
What this means for the RTX Spark launch
RTX Spark is a considerably bigger jump than Snapdragon X was. It pairs a 20-core Arm CPU with a full Blackwell RTX GPU and CUDA support, aimed squarely at creators and developers who need more GPU horsepower rather than just efficient everyday computing.
Microsoft’s task scheduler has reportedly been rewritten to take advantage of that chip design, and Prism itself has been retuned for RTX Spark’s particular mix of CPU and GPU cores. NVIDIA CEO already confirmed that the RTX Spark would run all apps that have ever run on Windows, a claim that would make early Windows RT skeptics sit up and take notice.
