Rumors of a collaboration between two of gaming’s most enduring franchises have finally been confirmed. During the official D&D Vision Keynote livestream on July 30, 2026, Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard Entertainment revealed that a Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft tabletop RPG expansion is currently in development. This project aims to merge the deep roleplay systems of 5th Edition with the expansive history, races, and classes of Azeroth, allowing dungeon masters and players to craft their own stories within the Warcraft universe.
For fans who have felt that the faction conflict in the live-action MMO has taken a backseat to recent narrative directions, this crossover offers a unique solution. The tabletop format allows for the kind of unscripted Horde versus Alliance skirmishes that define the franchise’s roots, giving players full creative control over the war for Azeroth.
#1 New Classes and Subclasses
The expansion promises to translate the iconic class identities of World of Warcraft into D&D’s 5th Edition framework. According to the official news post, the rulebook will introduce six new subclasses and thirteen class skins designed to mirror WoW mechanics.
Key additions include the Oath of the Ebon Blade and Oath of the Holy Paladin for Paladins, the Demon Hunter Ranger, the Shadow Domain and Discipline Domain Clerics, and the Path of the Elements Barbarian. Additionally, existing subclasses like the Swashbuckler Rogue, Path of the Spiritual Guardian Barbarian, and Warrior of Mystic Brews Monk will receive WoW-themed updates to better reflect their in-game counterparts.
#2 Playable Races and Factions
One of the most requested features for any Warcraft TTRPG is the ability to play as the diverse races of Azeroth. The core rulebook will feature updates for existing D&D races alongside eleven brand-new options. Players can finally bring Dracthyr, Draenei, Earthen, Forsaken, Haranir, Mechagnome, Pandaren, Tauren, Troll, Vulpera, and Worgen to the table.
This expansion also includes twenty-five factions that players can earn renown rewards with, adding a layer of reputation grinding that mirrors the MMO experience. The inclusion of these factions ensures that roleplaying your allegiance to a specific group will have mechanical benefits, encouraging deeper immersion in the world’s politics.
#3 Dungeons, Spells, and Icecrown Citadel
Adventure seekers will find plenty to explore, with sixty new spells, twenty-five magic items, and over ten new professions to master. The bestiary expands significantly with more than fifty new monsters and thirty unique dungeon bosses, each complete with their own stat blocks for balanced encounters.
Seven iconic World of Warcraft dungeons are being reimagined for tabletop play, including Azjol-Nerub, Blackfathom Deeps, Deadmines, Dire Maul, Onyxia’s Lair, Scarlet Monastery, and Shadowfang Keep. These locations provide familiar backdrops for players to tackle classic challenges using their new subclass abilities.
For those looking for a more structured campaign, the release will include a dedicated Icecrown Citadel Map Pack and Digital Adventure. This module is modeled after the Wrath of the Lich King expansion and spans levels 16-20 across five chapters. It features ten double-sided poster maps covering boss arenas, two encounter sheets for the Lich King’s forces, and sixteen new magic items, including the legendary sword Frostmourne.
#4 Pricing and Bundle Options
Pre-orders are now live on D&D Beyond, offering several ways to secure the expansion. The core gameplay rulebook is priced at $39.99, while the Icecrown Citadel Map Pack and the Dungeon Master’s Screen are available separately for $19.99 and $24.99, respectively.
Players can also opt for one of two Ultimate Bundle packs. The standard Ultimate Bundle includes the core rulebook, the Icecrown Citadel content, the DM screen, a limited edition Murloc Promo Miniature, and digital in-game rewards such as a Black Dragon Mount, a Gazer pet, and a Mimic Chest toy. The Collector’s Edition adds special Horde and Alliance-themed book covers to the mix.
Whether you are a long-time WoW veteran looking to relive the faction wars or a D&D enthusiast eager to explore Azeroth, this crossover provides a robust toolkit for tabletop storytelling. The combination of familiar lore with 5th Edition mechanics ensures that both communities can find a place at the table.
