Guns of Eschaton: The first FPS Soulslike brings grimdark Wild West horror to PC

Guns of Eschaton blends classic Western aesthetics with supernatural horror and challenging combat mechanics for PC and console players.

Eschatology Entertainment and publisher 4Divinity have officially unveiled Guns of Eschaton, a title that aims to be the world’s first true First-Person Shooter (FPS) Soulslike. The game is scheduled for release on June 30, 2026, and will launch simultaneously on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

The project draws heavily from the artistic vision of Viktor Antonov, the late art director known for his work on Half-Life 2 and Dishonored. His influence shapes a grimdark, apocalyptic reinterpretation of the American Old West, where players must navigate a landscape overrun by demons and giant monsters.

The game features nightmarish enemies and environmental hazards that require careful study and preparation to overcome.

Combining gunplay with punishing difficulty

While games like Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2 have successfully merged third-person shooter mechanics with Soulslike progression, Guns of Eschaton takes this concept into a first-person perspective. The enemies you face are designed to be extremely difficult, utilizing freakish strength, unfair tactics, and reality-warping powers capable of ending your run instantly.

To survive, you will need to rely on more than just trigger discipline. Combat involves studying enemy weaknesses through an in-game book called the Codex, crafting builds with firearms and armor, and mastering parrying mechanics alongside occult magic and talismans. The gameplay loop emphasizes preparation and precision over reflexes alone.

Full progression co-op changes the formula

One of the most distinct features highlighted by the developers is the co-op system. Many traditional Soulslikes restrict campaign progression to the host player, forcing friends to repeat content or fall behind in the story. Guns of Eschaton supports two-player co-op with full campaign progression for both participants.

This means you and a friend can tackle the horrors of this nightmarish world together without one person being left out of the narrative experience. If the matchmaking system proves intuitive, this could make it a strong candidate for weekend co-op sessions, provided the core solo gameplay holds up on its own merits.

What this means for you

If you enjoy the challenge of FromSoftware titles but prefer a first-person view, or if you are looking for a fresh take on the Wild West genre that moves away from historical accuracy toward supernatural horror, Guns of Eschaton warrants attention. The game is currently available for wishlisting on Xbox Store and Steam.

For PC gamers, this represents a unique entry in the Soulslike library that prioritizes gunplay mechanics while retaining the punishing difficulty and build-crafting depth fans expect. Keep an eye out for more details as the June 2026 release date approaches.
