Microsoft continues its rapid update cycle for Microsoft 365 subscribers on the Current Channel. If you rely on Office apps like Word, Excel, Outlook, or PowerPoint, keeping track of these weekly drops can be tricky. We have compiled the key changes from the past year to help you understand what has changed in your suite.
These updates apply specifically to the Current Channel. If you are on the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel or using standalone Office versions, your update schedule will differ. Below, we highlight the most significant recent builds, focusing on stability fixes and new features.
1. Outlook image display and co-authoring fixes
Recent updates have targeted persistent annoyances in Outlook and Excel. In Version 2605 (Build 20026.20140), released on June 3, 2026, Microsoft fixed a bug where images failed to display when using top and bottom text wrapping in classic Outlook. This should restore visual clarity for emails with complex layouts.
Additionally, Version 2605 (Build 20026.20076), released on May 20, 2026, addressed unexpected closures in Excel and PowerPoint. This crash occurred during co-authoring sessions, particularly when opening a document for the first time. If you collaborate frequently on cloud-based files, this build improves stability.

2. Copilot gets editing powers in PowerPoint
A major feature drop arrived with Version 2603 (Build 19822.20182) on April 14, 2026. This build enabled Copilot to edit existing PowerPoint documents. Previously limited to generation, the AI assistant can now start new presentations, update content, improve layouts, and polish designs while preserving your branding and formatting.
Accessibility improvements also landed in Version 2603 (Build 19822.20168). Users could previously not close the Copilot chat pane using only a keyboard. This update allows you to navigate to the Close button or use assigned shortcuts, making the interface more usable for those relying on keyboard navigation.
3. Critical security patches and Outlook mail fixes
Security remains a priority with monthly Patch Tuesday releases. Version 2604 (Build 19929.20164), released May 12, 2026, plugged several security holes. IT administrators are advised to apply these updates promptly after verifying compatibility within their environments.
Functionality fixes included in Version 2604 (Build 19929.20172) resolved an issue where sending mail failed when multiple Exchange accounts were configured. Similarly, Version 2604 (Build 19929.20136) fixed a crash that occurred after replying to mail items with labels. These builds ensure smoother daily operations for users managing complex email setups.

4. Word agent mode and OneNote language fixes
Version 2602 (Build 19725.20172), released March 10, 2026, introduced agent mode in Word. This feature adds a conversational chat experience to help create, edit, and refine document content as you work. It also fixed rendering issues where extended characters in calendar items appeared as question marks.
For multilingual users, Version 2601 (Build 19628.20150) improved OneNote’s proofing language consistency. You no longer need to reset the language for every paragraph when writing in multiple languages. This build also resolved unresponsiveness issues linked to profile card activities across Office apps.
