Microsoft’s monthly Xbox Free Play Days program is back for Halloween weekend, and this month’s lineup leans into the spooky season with five downloadable games you can claim and keep.
According to Neowin’s report on the announcement, the Free Play Days rotation for the month includes Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Everspace 2, and survival-horror multiplayer standout Dead by Daylight, alongside two other titles rounding out the five-game selection.

Free Play Days is one of the quieter but most practical perks of an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and it’s worth understanding exactly what it offers before you rush to claim this month’s games.
What Xbox Free Play Days actually is
Xbox Free Play Days is a monthly benefit exclusive to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Each month, Microsoft unlocks a rotating set of games — typically four to five titles — that you can download and play even if they aren’t currently listed in the standard Game Pass library.
The catch, if you can call it that, is that the games stay in your library for as long as your Game Pass Ultimate subscription remains active. Once your membership lapses, access to the Free Play Days titles is locked again. Unlike the regular Game Pass rotation, where games come and go based on licensing, Free Play Days titles are yours to keep month to month, stacking up in your collection over time.
This is distinct from the older Xbox Games with Gold program, which historically offered a smaller monthly selection to Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass members. Free Play Days was introduced as an enhanced perk tied specifically to the higher-tier Ultimate plan.
The Halloween weekend lineup
With five games this month, the selection is on the fuller side of Free Play Days’ usual range, and it spans several genres — from a mythic action RPG to space flight combat to asymmetric horror.
#1 Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is the action RPG from Leikir Studio, published by Game Science — the studio that made Black Myth: Wukong. Released in September 2025, it reimagines the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West in a darker, more unsettling light.
Players take control of a protagonist navigating a plague-ridden world, with a combat system that blends melee strikes, dodging, and special abilities. The game drew praise for its visuals, boss design, and challenging difficulty, establishing itself as one of the more notable entries in the soulslike-adjacent genre.
Adding it to Free Play Days gives Game Pass Ultimate members a chance to try a premium, full-price action RPG without a separate purchase.
#2 Everspace 2
Everspace 2 is an open-world space flight combat RPG from ROCKFISH Games. After years in early access, it reached full release in 2024 and has since built a following for its fast-paced dogfighting and exploration.
You pilot a customizable ship, take on enemy factions, upgrade your loadout, and uncover a story that unfolds across a large, explorable galaxy. It’s the kind of game that rewards long play sessions, and having it free for the month is a good reason to carve out some cockpit time.
#3 Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight is the asymmetric multiplayer survival horror game from Behaviour Interactive, and it’s one of the longest-running live-service titles on the market. Since its 2016 launch, it has amassed a huge player base and an extensive roster of crossover DLC featuring horror icons from film and pop culture.
In each match, one player takes on the role of a killer while up to four others try to escape — a setup that has kept the game fresh and social for years. Bringing it into Free Play Days is a low-risk way to jump in if you’ve been curious, though note that its core appeal is online multiplayer.

What this means for you
If you already hold a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, this month’s Free Play Days is essentially free money in gaming terms. There’s no extra cost to claim the games, and whatever you download and finish this month stays in your library — so it makes sense to dig into the titles you’d otherwise pay full price for.
For those on the standard (non-Ultimate) Game Pass plans, this benefit doesn’t apply. Free Play Days remains an Ultimate-exclusive perk, so it’s another point in favor of the higher-tier plan if you’re a serious gamer.
One practical tip: the games are only available to claim during the Free Play Days window, so don’t wait too long. Once you’ve claimed them, though, they’re yours to keep for as long as your Ultimate membership is active.
How to claim this month’s games
To grab this month’s Free Play Days titles, you’ll need an active Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Sign in with your Microsoft account, head to the Xbox store or the Game Pass section on your console, PC, or phone, and look for the Free Play Days hub to see the current selection and download the games you want.
Because the offer is time-limited, claim the titles you’re actually interested in rather than letting them slip away. Once claimed, they remain accessible regardless of whether they stay in the regular Game Pass rotation afterward.
