SCS Software continues to prove that its truck simulation titles have a remarkably long shelf life. After confirming a slate of upcoming DLC projects, the developer is now teasing substantial base map reworks for both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. These updates arrive as the studio prepares for a major milestone: the console release of both games, which was revealed at last year’s Gamescom Future Games Show.
While newer DLC regions like Illinois and Nordic Horizons have set a high bar for visual fidelity and road network complexity, the original base maps have aged alongside the games themselves. Euro Truck Simulator 2 launched in 2012, and American Truck Simulator will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2026. The upcoming reworks are designed to bring these foundational regions up to the quality standards of the newest content, ensuring a cohesive experience for players.
#1 American Truck Simulator Nevada Rework
Nevada is one of the original states featured in American Truck Simulator, and its current iteration has long been a candidate for an overhaul. SCS Software is returning to this vast, sparsely populated region to rebuild many locations from the ground up. The goal is to reduce the sense of emptiness that can sometimes plague the current map while expanding the road network.
A confirmed addition to the reworked Nevada is the town of Fallon, located to the east of Carson City. This expansion will also bring missing sections of US-95 that run through the city, resolving a long-standing issue where this area of the map was previously inaccessible to players.
In addition to new towns and roads, the rework will introduce a number of new depots. These facilities will increase the variety of delivery routes available across the state, adding more gameplay depth to an already iconic region. This follows the successful rework of Route 66, which set the template for how SCS approaches updating older content without losing its original charm.
#2 Euro Truck Simulator 2 UK Rework
Similarly, the Euro Truck Simulator 2 UK rework is well underway. First revealed in late 2025, this project is far more than a visual refresh. The rework will add Inverness as a new location in the far north of the map, expanding the playable area significantly. Other highlighted locations include Stonehenge and Leeds, which will be added as new city destinations.
The EuroTunnel is also set to receive a comprehensive revamp, improving both the visual representation and the logistical gameplay within the tunnel. SCS has noted that the rework will consider integration with the planned Coaches DLC, suggesting that the UK region will serve as a hub for multiple upcoming content drops. For players who have been waiting for a more detailed representation of the British Isles, the progress so far is highly promising.
#3 Console Release and Gamescom 2026
The timing of these reworks is highly strategic. While PC players have been trucking for over a decade, the console versions of both games have not yet been assigned a release date. However, the decision to polish the base maps now makes perfect sense. These reworked regions will likely form the core experience for new players on Xbox and PlayStation, who will be encountering the games for the first time.
SCS has already confirmed its presence at Gamescom 2026 with its largest booth yet, featuring an exclusive partnership with Thrustmaster and Volvo. While the console release has not been explicitly discussed at the event, the developer has provided attendees the chance to preview upcoming content. Given the scale of the booth and the partnership announcements, a concrete console launch window may be revealed soon.
What This Means for You
For veteran players, these reworks mean that the regions you have likely driven through hundreds of times will feel fresh again. The addition of new depots and expanded road networks in Nevada, along with the northern expansion in the UK, provides new gameplay loops and longer hauls. For those waiting on the console release, this ensures that the base game is as polished as possible before it hits living rooms. You can expect a smoother, more visually consistent experience that bridges the gap between the original 2012/2016 releases and modern standards.
How to Stay Updated
SCS Software typically shares development progress through its official blog and social media channels. Keep an eye on the SCS website for detailed patch notes once the Nevada and UK reworks are ready for deployment. If you are planning to jump into the console versions, these updates will likely be part of the initial launch content, meaning you won’t have to wait long to experience the improved maps.
