Chrome Is Likely Never Getting Windows 11’s Modern Redesign, as Even Microsoft No Longer Cares

Google Chrome’s long-rumored integration with Windows 11’s native visual language has officially hit the cutting room floor. However, those improvements appear to have been abandoned entirely.

For context, the Mica flag was never a simple skin tweak. It required deep integration with Windows 11’s composition engine to sample the desktop wallpaper and apply a dynamic, opaque backdrop to the application window. There was also a variant called Mica Alt, which applied a stronger tint of the desktop background color. Both were explored for Chrome and Edge at various points, but neither made it to a stable release.
